I Feel Too Much, Too Deeply | Holistic Counselling

For adults who feel overwhelmed by the intensity of their inner world and long for space to feel safe, seen and steady

Last updated on 28 August 2025 by Brisbane Livewell Clinic Editorial Team

Some people feel everything. Sadness, shame, joy, frustration, tension in the room, tension in others. For them, emotions don’t just visit. They flood. If this sounds familiar, you’re likely someone who feels deeply and has often been told to “calm down,” “toughen up,” or “stop overthinking.” These comments often lead to suppression, exhaustion or burnout. Holistic counselling with Nathan Gurry offers a grounded, respectful space to begin making sense of your sensitivity – not as something to change, but as something to understand and care for.

Why Emotional Depth Feels So Exhausting

Feeling deeply is not a flaw. But in a world that values productivity over presence, it can be misread. Sensitive people are often told they’re too reactive, too dramatic or too emotional. Many learn to internalise their reactions, push them down or disconnect altogether.

This emotional holding often leads to fatigue, dissociation or even physical symptoms. Holistic counselling helps patients explore these internal experiences in a way that is slow, respectful and clear. There is no expectation to reduce sensitivity. The focus is on creating more capacity and clarity around it.

What You Can Expect in Sessions

Sessions with Nathan Gurry are shaped around what your nervous system can hold that day. There’s no pressure to explain everything, no need to appear composed. If you feel flooded, stuck or scattered, that becomes the starting point. If you’ve never had a space where your emotional depth was welcomed without analysis or correction, this may feel like a shift.

You may begin to notice what contributes to the intensity you carry – whether it’s masking, internalised pressure, grief, past trauma or nervous system depletion. Often, people in this space don’t need more tools. They need more support in simply being with what is.

Who This Page Speaks To

This form of holistic counselling is especially suited for adults who:

  • Feel intense emotional responses that others don’t understand
  • Are told they’re “too much” or “too sensitive”
  • Experience frequent emotional overwhelm or shutdown
  • Pick up on others’ feelings easily and feel drained afterwards
  • Are trying to hold everything together while internally falling apart
  • Have a long history of masking or emotional suppression
  • Need space to be without pressure or performance

Online and In-Person Support Available

Nathan offers holistic counselling both in person at Brisbane Livewell Clinic (Wavell Heights) and online via video. Many patients choose online sessions to avoid the sensory, logistical or emotional strain of travel. The quality of presence and support remains the same in both formats.

Quote from Nathan Gurry

“People who feel deeply are often quietly carrying things no one else sees. They’ve learned to survive in a world that hasn’t made room for how they process. My role isn’t to fix that, but to stay with it – long enough that something new becomes possible.”

Booking a Session

Nathan sees patients across Brisbane in person and across Australia online. You can book via the website or call Reception at (07) 3861 5881. In-person appointments are available in Wavell Heights.

FAQs

1. Can holistic counselling help if I feel too emotional or reactive?

Yes. Holistic counselling is designed to support adults who feel things deeply and often struggle to manage that emotional intensity. The focus is on building nervous system steadiness and clarity, not changing who you are.

2. I’ve been told I’m too sensitive – will I be judged here?

No. Sensitivity is understood as a valid part of your nervous system and personality. Sessions are shaped around what’s real for you, not what others expect from you.

3. Can I do this work online if I’m not in Brisbane?

Yes. Nathan offers holistic counselling via secure online video sessions across Australia. Many patients choose online support for convenience and sensory comfort.

4. What if I cry or get during the session?

That’s completely okay. You don’t need to manage your emotions here. The space is safe for tears, silence, frustration or confusion.

5. Will I be given tools to fix my emotional intensity?

If you want grounding tools, Nathan will offer them. But the work is not based on fixing. It’s based on understanding your experience and exploring it with care and attention.

6. What happens in the first session?

You’ll share whatever feels true or relevant. Nathan will guide the pace gently and help you settle into the work without pressure.

7. Do I have to talk about past trauma to benefit?

No. While some people choose to reflect on the past, others focus on their current experience. The process is shaped by what you want to bring.

8. I’ve tried therapy before and felt dismissed. Is this different?

Many of Nathan’s patients have tried other support and left feeling misread or pressured. Holistic counselling takes a slower, more relational approach.

9. Can this help with emotional burnout?

Yes. If you’ve been holding in feelings or pushing through exhaustion for years, this work helps you reconnect with what your body and emotions need.

10. What if I don’t know what I’m feeling?

That’s okay. The sessions make room for confusion and numbness. Clarity often begins with simply being with what’s unclear.

11. Is this suitable for men who feel deeply but don’t talk about it often?

Yes. Nathan sees men, women and non-binary patients, including those who’ve never had space to explore emotional sensitivity before.

12. Do I need to be spiritual to benefit from this work?

No. While spiritual themes are welcome, they’re never required. You can bring whatever is real for you – or just a longing to feel more like yourself again.

13. How do I know if I’m feeling too much or if something’s wrong with me?

Feeling deeply is not a flaw. If your emotional experience is overwhelming or affecting your relationships, work or wellbeing, it’s valid to seek support.

14. How do I book?

You can book online or by calling (07) 3861 5881. Sessions are available in person at Wavell Heights or online across Australia.
